Desk Cockpit privacy policy
Desk Cockpit, by SMS Apps. Last updated October 11, 2026.
The short version: your dashboard stays on your Mac. Desk Cockpit has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and SMS Apps never receives your data.
What Desk Cockpit stores, and where
- Your dashboard — sections, cards, and the names, links and file locations on them — is saved in the app's own private storage on your Mac.
- Access to your files is remembered with macOS bookmarks, so the app can reopen a file you added. It reads a file only to open it, preview it or make its thumbnail, when you ask.
- Backups are kept in the same private storage: one each day, and one before any import. Older ones are removed automatically.
- Previews — file thumbnails and links' site icons and titles — are cached on your Mac and cleared out when unused.
- The widget and menu bar use a small summary of your glowing and pinned cards (names, sites or file types, and section names), saved in storage shared only with Desk Cockpit's own widget.
- Settings are kept in the app's preferences on your Mac.
- Exports go wherever you choose to save them.
None of this is sent to SMS Apps or anyone else. It stays on your Mac until you remove it; moving the app to the Trash doesn't remove its storage, so Support explains how.
When Desk Cockpit goes online
Only to show a link card's preview: Desk Cockpit fetches the linked page's icon and title directly from that website, as a browser would, and the site sees an ordinary request from your Mac. Previews are refreshed about every two weeks. You can turn this off in Settings → Appearance → Previews, and then Desk Cockpit makes no network requests at all.
Opening a card hands the file or link to your Mac's usual app, such as your web browser, whose own privacy terms apply.
Shortcuts, Siri and Spotlight
Desk Cockpit's actions run on your Mac. Requests you make through Siri are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Testing through TestFlight
If you test Desk Cockpit through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports and feedback you choose to send, along with basic device details, with SMS Apps. That's covered by Apple's TestFlight terms. We use it only to fix problems.
If you write to us, we use your address and message only to reply, and never share them.
Children
Desk Cockpit doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
